My name is Jeannie Sikes. I was born and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas and now live in Edmond, Oklahoma with my husband, Dan. We have four children: Kimberly, Shawn, Timothy and Leah (and a dog named KayDee Belle).
I graduated from Oklahoma Christian with a B.S. in home economics and a minor in interior design. Currently, I contract with an interior designer sewing curtains, bedding and other household items. I started On Pins and Needles in order to reach more people and expand my business.
I spend most of my spare time in my sewing room quilting, making bags and other crafts. I belong to a local quilt guild and recently purchased my dream -- a long-arm quilting machine.
When I am not sewing, I enjoy reading, cooking & baking, watching TV shows with my husband, participating in my local congregation and spending time with my children.
If you would like to contact me about a project, feel free!

What is On Pins and Needles?
I began On Pins and Needles in order to sell my products and services on my own. In 2014, my husband and I decided to move and upgrade to a larger house where I would have sufficient space in my sewing room. The family previously living in our house had converted their garage into a game room space -- perfect for my sewing room. With our newfound square footage, I set out to find a long-arm quilting machine, something I had always wanted. Finally, just before Christmas, we purchased one (I won't tell you the cost, but my husband joked he'd drive it to work when I wasn't using it). With this purchase, I now have a greater ability to quickly complete quilts, bedspreads and more. Therefore, On Pins and Needles was born.
I am based in the Oklahoma City area, and therefore can only take jobs that require meeting (advising on items, receiving quilt tops or t-shirts for t-shirt quilts) in the metro area. However, I am willing to correspond via email and work out shipping costs. If someone in Oklahoma, but not in the OKC metro area, is interested, I will gladly pay you a visit with reimbursement for gas.
In general, I have four areas I will focus on when creating items for you: bags & purses, quilting, duvets & pillows and curtains. Please see each page in order to find out more about whatever you are interested in.
However, I am not limited to these four things! I am capable of a variety of different items including tablecloths and table runners, wall hangings, shopping cart covers for children and many other fabric conundrums you may find yourself in. Please feel free to contact me with inquires about projects. From there, we can work out a timeline and a fair price. Unfortunately, I am not providing any clothing services at this time.
Bags & Purses
I started making purses and bags several years ago and enjoyed making backpacks, totes and purses for myself, my children, husband and some friends. I have made many different kinds of bags including duffles and backpacks perfectly suited for traveling complete with hidden pockets and interchangeable straps. I also have begun making my own purse patterns so you can make my designs for yourself and your friends.
To see more of my purses & patterns and to purchase my creations, please visit my Etsy store. If you are interested in a custom design or specific fabric, send me a message. From there, I can see what I can do for you and then create a special listing on my Etsy store.
Quilting
Quilting has always been a great love of mine. From making up my own patterns to following a pre-made pattern, then matching fabrics and quilting a quilt top, I enjoy it all.
If you have a finished quilt top that you would like to be quilted -- backing and top -- I can take care of that for you. I have also made quite a few T-shirt quilts and can make a quilt from scratch for you. Another idea for a quilt might be for a specific occasion (wedding, anniversary or graduation). For each of my four children's high school graduations, I made 'senior quilts' which their friends and family members signed; a wonderful keepsake to look back on through the years. Whatever your quilt need might be, be sure and send me a message and let me know what you are wanting. From there, we can discuss pricing for custom quilts.
If you are just needing a finished quilt top quilted, I charge a penny and a half per square inch of the quilt.
For other pricing, please contact me. Keep in mind that each product is unique and therefore the price of a product can vary greatly from person to person. The type of fabric, complexity of design and time frame are only a few things that can play into the cost of your product. Each cost will be fairly discussed between you and me before a decision is made.

Interior Decorating
Throughout my time contracting with an interior designer, one of my main tasks was to sew curtains for people's homes. Though seemingly simple, creating beautiful curtains is actually a truly complex task. There are many different kinds of curtains: long panels, valances, cafe curtains and sheers, just to name a few. Deciding how your curtains will look is just the beginning of the process. Fabric must be chosen, measurements taken and hardware for installing the curtains matched perfectly to the room and design.
I have also made several duvets & pillows, as either a matched set or just one or the other.
A duvet is a cover for a comforter, and therefore is generally used for show and not intended for actual usage. The comforter inside will be removable and washable, but the type of fabric chosen for the duvet will dictate its washability. I have made duvets for children and adult rooms alike and can help you design your duvet. I can also advise you on the best places to buy your fabric in the Oklahoma City area and what the best kind will be to use for your product.
